Venizelos: "Salaries and living standards going back to 2004"

Forget everything you knew to be true...

“Unfortunately, incomes and living standards will return to standards of 2004!”, stated Evangelos Venizelos to the members of the House Finance Committee, shortly after the end of the scheduled meetings held with the Troika.

The minister clarified that “if we do not break the bubble, if we do not dispel the illusion that was created in Greek society, we will not succeed. The situation is fluid. The EU cannot provide easy and clearly defined solutions. The citizens are tired of watching a neverending crisis. Since 2008, we see that crisis in its various stages”.

In addition, Mr. Venizelos stated that negotiations with lenders and the EU were made “without imposition of institutional constraints”, and hinted that this reduces the protection of a country’s dignity”. He underlined that “when you make requests, when you are in need, you are at a disadvantage,,, The citizen of the Baltic countries or Eastern Europe is not easily moved by the Greek people’s sacrifices… We are required to pay retroactive costs for our own mistakes and shortcomings”.
