ICJ To Decide On Compensations To Greece For Nazi Crimes

The International Court of Justice in Hague will announce its decision on the German compensations to Greece for Nazi crimes during World War II on February 3.

The case file concerns the surviving victims and the relatives of the victims from the Distomo Massacre, which is included among the major atrocities of the Nazi-Germans in World War II.
In 2008, a court in Florence had vilified the 1997 decision of a Greek court that awarded compensations to the 218 victims of the Distomo Massacre. The German state had appealed against the Italian ruling at the International Court of Justice, claiming State immunity.
According to the Greek High Court’s decision in May 2000, the Federal Republic of Germany owes a sum of 28 million euros as compensation to the victims of Distomo.
