The situation is critical, scenarios of coalition government

PM cancels USA trip

The following hours will be crucial, after the decision of the Prime Minister not to go to the States.

Due to the criticality of the coming week - for the implementation of the decisions of July 21st, 2011, in the Eurozone and the responsibilities that the country needs to assume - the Prime Minister decided not to go to the United States.

With this announcement, the Press Office of the Prime Minister stated that the PM will not go to the States. The commotion that was caused was indicative of the fact that even the collaborators of Mr. Papandreou where not aware of the decision.

According to information, Mr.Papandreou is at this moment on a flight from London to Athens, after a call with the Minister of Finance Evangelos Venizelos.

In the call, according to unconfirmed information, Mr.Venizelos conveyed the climate that he had to deal with in Poland, which was characterized by disbelief, or even hostility in some cases, on the part of the other member states towards Greece.

More particularly, according to sources, during the Ecofin meeting today, the other member states rejected the plan of the Greek government as it was presented by Minister of Finance Mr.Venizelos. In reality, the Eurogroup Ministers of Finance questioned the possibility of receiving the 1,5 billion euros from the latest tax measures, considering that in the best case scenario, 1/3 of the sum will be collected. Therefore, they decided not to disburse the 6th installment of the loan.

As soon as the PM was informed about the negative climate, he cancelled the USA trip and will deal with the issues personally.

The current situation is bringing forward scenarios about immediate dismissals and possible elections. There is an urgent meeting in the Ministry of Finance.
