Azerbaijan authorities announced today that they succeeded in preventing a terrorist attack during the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. Police arrested 40 people who had already bought tickets to enter the Crystal Hall, the stadium of the contest on the day of the finale. Some of the terrorists were killed during the arrests.
According to the official announcement, other targets included the President of the country, Ilhman Alief, police stations, hotels where journalists and delegations were staying as well as the press center and places of worship. The arrests occurred during separate operations in the cities of Gontza and Soumgaip and many other regions of the country.
The Ministry of National Security chose not to reveal this during the fifteen days of the contest in an effort not to panic participants and tourists.
