Petsalnikos’ nomination was ruled out

After strong reactions

Reportedly, after the conclusion of the council of political leaders and its reprogramming for Thursday morning, the idea of nominating chairman of parliament Philippos Petsalnikos as the new prime minister, was abandoned.

The end titles in his candidacy are also caused by threats made by 40 to 50 members of PASOK and ND, that they would not give their vote of confidence to the new government scheme.

By early afternoon members of the ruling party and the opposition had gathered in parliament and expected developments. On hearing the news that the president of parliament was a favorite they launched their reactions which culminated in the announcement of the PM and especially when Papandreou said move to an “institutional choice.”

Specifically, members of PASOK, even those belonging to the “presidential” block, expressed “discomfort”, “frustration” and “serious concern” while they said they might not give a positive response regarding the confidence vote.

Meanwhile, developments were occurring in ND as well. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Aris Spiliotopoulos and Kostis Chatzidakis were gathered for quite a while in the office of Dora Bakogianni. According to reports the common outcome was a “negative response to the solution of Petsalnikos.”

Then they went to the office of the Secretary of ND Costas Tasoulas and raised their concerns, noting that they intend to write a relevant letter. In fact, about 25 members from all the disparate groups of the party were willing to sign the letter.

Nevertheless it is interesting that after the discontinuation of the conference of political leaders, parliamentarians reported with relief that “the lounge is what damaged Petsalnikos.”
