Al. Tsipras: "If Greece exits the Euro, look for the next victim"

"I hope logic prevails"

“I hope logic prevails and Greece is not forced to leave the Euro” underlined SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras in an interview on British Channel 4.

He emphasized that if Greece leaves the Euro, in the following few days the markets will try to find the next victim and he estimates that “the next will be Italy, which is burdened with a 1.9-trillion debt, while Greece owes 350 billion”.

When asked whether Germany is not “bluffing” and insisting on austerity measures or leaving the Euro, Mr. Tsipras commented that his opinion is that they will not insist and underlines that “we will have to converse on a real solution to the problem which is not Greek, but European”.

“I do not know if they are bluffing or are trying to lessen the power of SYRIZA because we are having elections and they want ND or PASOK in power and not us”, he added.

Indeed, Mr. Tsipras likens the dilemma set forth by foreign leaders Angela Merkel and David Cameron as a Cold War situation. “I believe we are in a situation similar to that between Russia and the USA during the Cold War. Both sides had nuclear weapons and both sides threatened to push the red button”.

He also asked Angela Merkel to “deflate her ego and realize that austerity policies are wrong policies and try to work with us on a common solution that will help development and maintain the social infrastructure”.
