Greek Director Costas Gavras Says “Greece is the First Victim of Financial War”

Internationally acclaimed film drector Costas Gavras told a reporter on MEGA channel that “Greece is the first victim of an economic war.”
Asked why he participated and advocated for Greece at the “We Are All Greeks Campaign” that was held in Paris, Gavras said that it was his obligation as a Greek to do so because he is deeply concerned about the economic and social situation in Greece.
“Even though people are getting informed either through reading a newspaper, watching a television report, etc, everyone is now is becoming more active” because pictures sometimes say more than words do.

He said he often asks himself why Germany has reached to such extremes, noting that the products and services forcefully sold to Greece by Germany over the years is more than scandalous. Turning to Greece’s politicians, Gavras said that the comment by Theodore Pangalos who told the Greek people “we ate together” is nothing more than hogwash, since the people (in their vast majority) never sat at the same table with the policy makers, but were rather thrown a few crumbs to survive.
“This is great drama in Greece,” he noted. The Greek filmmaker, who lives and works in France, is best known for films with overt political themes, most famously the fast-paced thriller, Z (1969). Most of his movies were made in French; starting with Missing (1982), several were made in English. Some more titles include: State of Siege (1973), Music Box (1989), La Petite Apocalypse (1993), Amen. (2003), etc.
