Thessaloniki: Floating Christmas Tree Sinks in the Sea (video)

Dozens of frustrated residents of Thessaloniki watched their floating Christmas tree sinking in the water.  Just one week after the municipality have set the constructions and the thousands of lights delighted young and old every night. Despite warnings for extreme weather conditions, the municipality apparently failed to take the necessary measures to stabilize the platform to withstand strong wind up to 7 Beaufort.

As expected the prefecture of Thessaloniki threw the repsonsibility ball in the court of the municipality. “Sadly our tree sank into the sea. Thayt’s logical. Trees are meant for the land, not for the sea…” deputy prefect St. Tsitsikostas commented on Twitter and Facebook.

After…
Some claim that the Chstimas tree construction was set off shore in order to avoid incidents like burning the tree by anarchists.


And by the way: it wasn’t just a Christmas tree but a Christmas tree …forest. Tasteful? Oh, *sigh*
