Georgiadis heckled on Lesvos visit

Angry protesters pelt deputy minister with fruit and eggs
Police had to escort the Georgiadis twice from angry crowds
Police on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos were on Friday twice dispatched to escort Deputy Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis from meetings as the politician, a member of rightwing Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS), was heckled by protesters hurling fruit and eggs.
The first time police were called on to intervene was after an angry crowd surrounded a government building in the island’s main port and attempted to break in. Officers helped Georgiadis evade protesters but not before they pelted him with oranges and eggs.
The deputy minister, best known for his loud rhetoric and for touting nationalist history books on television, was also escorted from the premises of the local television station Archipelagos where he had given an interview. Again, a crowd had gathered outside the TV studio, shouting offensive slogans. The deputy minister made it through the crowd unscathed but protesters chased the patrol car that spirited him way, throwing more eggs and fruit.
