One dead, three injured in rumble among football fans









One person was killed and three were injured in a rumble between some 30 opposing football team fans in the early hours of Monday on a coastal road near Pankrition Stadium, in Heraklion, Crete.
 
A 21-year-old youth from Malia died of stab wounds while two others were hospitalised and reported in critical condition.
 
The incident took place between fans of Ofi and Panathinaikos. Police have arrested at least six people.
 
Football-related violence has increased in Greece after the police began investigating a series of fixed matches.
 
The northern city of Volos was the first to experience a series of violent attacks from football fans about a month ago, when the local team was expelled from Europa League.
 
Last week, three men were stabbed when more than 100 hooligans attacked a Panathinaicos FC fan club at the Petralona area of Athens.
