The crisis has seriously hit the
media sector in Greece, but it seems that there is media market space
for some. It has been rumoured in journalistic circles for some time
that Gianna Angelopoulos - Daskalaki is seriously considering the option
of returning to business.
Despite the failure of her first attempt with "Eleftheros Tipos"
newspaper that went bankrupt, she has begun meetings with journalists
close to her as reported by the information blog parapolitika.gr.
According to well-informed sources, Mrs "Olympic Games 2004" is planning
to establish a small media consortium with centre-left orientation. The article pays particular attention to the fact that both she and her son have very close connections with the leader of the radical left SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras, who has been seeking to establish his presence in the media.
Thus, despite her husband’s disagreement, Gianna Angelopoulos seems determined to invest in the media again. There is some talk that she has already discussed the possibility of buying television frequencies along with a media businessman. Others are saying that she is planning to establish the first "web" media consortium in Greece.
The publication notes that all these pieces of information reveal Gianna Angelopoulos’ intention to engage in the media in order to influence the future political events and the creation of a new political scene.
It is not yet clear whether she will establish a new media complex or buy an existing one. The second scenario is more likely to happen and the political developments in Greece will play a crucial role in her actions. "We can say with certainty, for example, that Alexis Tsipras would like Gianna Angelopoulos’ plans to be triggered immediately. Others believe that precisely the Angelopoulos family lies behind his interest in the recently closed TV channel 902, which was the ownership of the Communist Party," reads the article on parapolitika.gr.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office in Athens has undertaken to examine the reports of the commission, whose task was to determine how much the costs of the Olympic Games in 2012 corresponded to their needs.
Prosecutor Sotiris Bouioukos has required the parliament to submit the reports prepared by 2007. According to sources, he and his colleagues are concerned that the final opinion of the members of the commission is that everything was implemented in a legitimate manner despite the numerous irregularities detected by the commission.
According to a publication in "Real news" newspaper, sources from the prosecutor’s office have questioned the conclusions of the investigating commission. "The fact that after all the observations the commission members have concluded that they have not found any problems in the disposal of the funds is impressive at best. We have requested their reports to find out how they have reached this conclusion."
Equally impressive is the fact that immediately after the company started to operate Gianna Angelopoulos - Daskalaki was quick to build a "wall" of legal protection by signing "golden" agreements with law firms and former senior magistrates.
Significantly, she signed the contracts of three former judges of the audit office only within a day. A little later, the same institution had to investigate how the budget of the Olympic Games in Athens had been used.
