embassy in Athens issued an emergency warning after the bomb explosion
in The Mall in Athens on Sunday morning. the embassy calls American
citizens to be review personal security plans, monitor local news media
and report suspect incidents to the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
Emergency Message: – Explosion at The Mall Athens
Sunday, January 20th, 2013Bellow the full statement:
This morning at 1041a.m. a bomb exploded at The Mall in Marousi, outside of Athens. Initial reports state two private security personnel were injured in the blast. At this time we are not aware of any group claiming responsibility. Currently police are treating The Mall and surrounding area as a crime scene and have cordoned off access. You are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
We encourage all U.S. citizens to review their personal security plans, remain aware of their surroundings, including local events, monitor local news stations for updates, and report specific incidences of targeted violence to the U.S. Embassy in Athens or the U. S. Consulate General in Thessaloniki at the numbers below. U.S. citizens should maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance their personal security.
