Cruises Could Fetch Billions, Study Reveals

Greece could be looking at annual revenues of two billion euros from the cruise sector in 2016 if the growth of the sector globally follows projections and Greek ports are used for home porting by at least two-thirds of cruise passengers in this country, Kathimerini daily reports citing a study published on Thursday by the National Bank of Greece.
Revenues from cruise tourism in Greece came to 600 million euros last year, or just 4% of European revenues, which amounted to 15 billion euros.
Estimates put the number of cruise passengers internationally at 30 million in 2016, from 20 million last year.
An increase in revenues in Greece could contribute in the creation of up to 30,000 jobs in the cruise sector by 2016, the NBG study found.
