Gastronomic Feast at Mount Athos Attracting International Visitors

During the first ten days of June, a group of Chinese academics and students arrived in Chalkidiki in order to pay a visit to Athos. In the meantime our Asian visitors were found enthusiastically following instructions on how to knead Asian Minor masticha “salbourekia” according to a recipe which came from their ancestors from East.
This gastronomic activity was posted on Facebook where it collected approximately 3,500 Likes.  In fact the “Likes” outnumbered the actual visitors to the event.
During these pastry lessons in Ouranoupoli, Greek housewives taught their guests how to prepare various traditional dishes so as to connect the past with the present.
The Chinese tourists really enjoyed preparing the “salbourekia” from Asia Minor and so did some Russian tourists who were given the chance to prepare and taste piroshkis with traditional Pontian recipes.
These extraordinary activities took place in the framework of the Mount Athos Area Gourmet event, the top culinary event of the year, a wonderful gastronomic feast in the Athos area of Chalkidiki  from June 4th to the 10th.
