Inaugurated on May 25, the exhibition marks the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of the British landscape painter and nonsense poet and author Edward Lear (1812 – 1888).
According to Dr Anthony Stevens, Corfu held a special place in Lear’s heart and he returned to it again and again, for to him it was “paradise” and “no other spot on earth can be fuller of beauty and of variety of beauty,” he wrote.
The exhibition is supported by the A. G. Leventis, the Bodossaki and the J. F. Costopoulos Foundations. It is curated by Despina Zernioti, Director of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art.
