10 gangs with kalashnikov spread the terror in Attica

Greek police departments are currently more busy than ever. The increase of crime is particularly keen  in the broader area of Attica with armed gangs robbing not only luxurious mansions and banks but more commonly ordinary houses and small stores.
According to Proto Thema newspaper, robbers endanger the lives of many as they break into houses bearing kalashnikovs to steal gold jewelry or small amounts of money while the residents are asleep. The ruthless robbers do not even hesitate to open fire on policemen or citizens when something goes wrong.
Every night, police announce at least two burglaries and officials estimate that there are about five large robber gangs and several smaller in Attica, as each one chooses specific neighborhoods and a different way of breaking into the houses.

Number one on the list is the one which murdered a 30-year-old man and injured his 32-year-old brother some days ago in Pireaus, when members tried to steal their car. Another gang appears to conceal their weapons inside guitar cases and includes a woman in the group.
Several days ago Greek police arrested one of the most notorious gangs of Attica. Their members walk around the city disguised in police suits, and they distinguish themselves by using a Hammer jeep for transport .  They have been responsible for a slew of robberies, including houses, cars, retail establishments, jewelry stores and banks. In just one year, the Hammer gang committed 28 robberies in total.
