The
state and federal government of Victoria is encouraging Greeks who are
suffering under the burdens of the debt crisis plaguing their country,
to migrate to Australia in search of a new job and better life
prospects, according to the Greek-Australian Minister of Multicultural
Affairs of Victoria, Nikos Kotsiras.Mr. Kotsiras said that the country is ready to welcome the New Greek
migrants without this meaning that they will receive any special
treatment.
The Minister held the official presentation of the program of the Antipodes Festival, which took place last weekend in Melbourne. “The festival provided us with a unique opportunity to express our solidarity to the Greek people” commented Mr. Kotsiras.
According to the Greek-Australian Minister, it is estimated that thousands of Greek-Australians, who had returned to Greece, are now coming back to Australia. He also underlined that the Victoria Government has granted the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne $3 million for the construction of the Greek Cultural Centre in Lonsdale.
