Samaras: I told Papandreou to resign and move to elections

ND party withdrew from the debate and many not attend the vote of confidence

 

A harsh attack against the PM was unleashed from the House podium by Antonis Samaras, who called on G. Papandreou to resign, accusing him of toying with both the leader of the New Democracy party but the EU leaders as well.

“Mr. Papandreou pretends he doesn’t understand. I asked for his resignation, not a coalition government”, he noted, arguing that “he lies and blackmails, trying to keep his place of power. I had made it clear to him that a loan agreement is different than the measures which will accompany it”, added Mr. Samaras, reiterating that the objections of New Democracy have to do with the policies of the government, and they remain intact.

He explained that the opportunity to speak should be given to the Greek people, but only under conditions of normality. He noted that Mr. Papandreou is trying to convince us that he came close to destroying everything in order to ensure the deal over which something that has been unattainable for ten days now.

He further stressed that the current government has no credibility either at home or abroad.

Reiterating his proposal for the establishment of a transitional government in order to pass the new loan agreement by the House and then proceed with elections, he stressed that he did not accept or ask for a universal government or a coalition.

The New Democracy party withdrew from the debate, and opened the possibility of not attending the vote of confidence tomorrow.
