550-million-euro Chinese “presents” for Greece

Visit - respite for the Greek economy

A Chinese delegation from China arrived in Greece earlier on Sunday in order to sign business agreements amounting to 550 million euro as a deed of good will, showing support to the extensive EU and Greek crisis. The delegation is headed by the president of the National Consultative Assembly of China, Jia Qinglin, and the deputy minister of Commerce, Zhong Shan. Also, many are the government and bank officials, as well as businessmen, who are visiting the country as members of the large delegation.

On Monday, the Greek and Chinese sides will sign a Common Belief Memorandum concerning the strengthening of their financial cooperation and ties. This is seen as the “sequel” of the meeting back in July between the Chinese deputy minister of Commerce and the Greek minister Michalis Chrysohoidis.

Along with the Memorandum, there are also six business deals between businesses of the two countries, having to do mainly with exports from Greece to China.

On Tuesday, businessmen from China will meet their counterparts from Greece in order to look into and discuss the possibility of further investments in the country.

The Chinese businesses are active in fields such as telecommunications, banking services, the car industry, technical equipment for trains, the cement industry, real estate, breweries, electronics, clothing and glassware.

Representatives from the telecommunication giant ZTE, the Bank of Beijing and car manufacturers Shanghai General Motors and Dongfeng are among those visiting Greece.
