Diamantopoulou apologises about books... not for the drachma though!

Statements by the Minister of Education

Education is at its worst phase ever, and the first thing one would expect from the Minister of Education is actions and not words, especially when the words are a mere apology while children of all ages are facing the prospect of beginning their academic year without books.
So the Minister’s apology is not very well received by the public, since there is absolute chaos just a mere week before the school bell rings. Students will not have books but will have photocopies and DVDs of the books. It is very clear that in the Ministry the situation was known but they did not announce it to the public. Characteristically, before the announcement about photocopies the Ministry said they would definitely be handing out basic books

Today the School Book Publishing Organisation  announced that 70% of schools will get the basic books and the remaining 30% will be sent out soon.
Mrs Diamantopoulou gave an interview today saying she was sorry and that the Control Committee is to blame. In reference to another burning issue, that of the Universities and the new legislation that has led to riots and occupations of schools, she thinks that of course it will cause trouble since it is obstructing “the interests of several parties”. However, tomorrow she will give a press conference with details on the new university law.
But her statement continued and she gave her opinion on the current economic crisis, as well saying that she is against elections and that in case there is internal chaos in Greece, we might exit the Eurozone!
